The App Drivers Union is the Union that emerged from the Illinois Drivers Alliance after the passage of Illinois’ House Bill 5090, which granted the over 100,000 rideshare drivers in Illinois their right to unionize, elect representatives, and collectively bargain with companies like Uber and Lyft.

For years, drivers have organized for fair pay, stronger protections, and a real voice on the job. Now, thanks to the law signed by the governor, Illinois drivers have a legal path to unionization.

The next step is up to us: organizing drivers across the state and getting every driver to sign a union card so we can build our union.

IAM UNION

IAM Union represents hundreds of thousands of workers in a number of industries, including public transportation, rail, manufacturing, healthcare, defense, air transport, automotive, and more.

Recognizing the urgent need for drivers in the gig economy who lack a voice on the job to have representation, the IAM Union is organizing Illinois rideshare drivers with SEIU Local 1 through the App Drivers Union.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 represents 50,000 workers across the Midwest, including janitors, security officers, airport workers, residential maintenance workers, and more.

Now, they’re organizing rideshare drivers to help build a path to unionization, so drivers can secure a real voice on the job.
